RSL faces Sporting KC in U.S. Open Cup fourth round draw

It’s the most magical time of the year.

Our fates are tied together, Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake. We just keep meeting, and now, we’ll be meeting in the U.S. Open Cup.

June 6. That’s when we meet. Rio Tinto Stadium. That’s where we meet. (Unless the club decides to play on turf at the ZBRA, but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.)

(Ed. note: I forgot to include the location initially. Whoops!)

(Another ed. note: I got the date wrong. Now it’s right.)

It’s been a long, long time coming. We’ve had our battles over the years, and while we don’t need to get into the specifics (preseason, MLS Cup, stuff like that) — we’ll get into that soon — we all know that there’s a true rivalry here.

We’ll anxiously await more detail on the match — kickoff time, mostly, and ticket sales options — and we will, of course, have a whole host of anti-Kansas City writings as the match nears. Look forward to that.

Let’s hope that RSL’s U.S. Open Cup run is better than last year, though. In the fourth round, we lost 4-1 to Sacramento Republic.

The big question I’ll have ahead of this: Who will play for RSL? Will we see a slew of Real Monarchs again? Will we see more first-team players as we try to stake a claim for a trophy early on? Let’s eagerly await more knowledge here.
