Real Salt Lake won their third consecutive match as they knocked off the Seattle Sounders for the second time in just eight days, this time with a 2-0 scoreline.
Mike Petke trotted out almost the same lineup that took down Houston earlier in the week, aside from two changes: Joao Plata instead of Bofo Saucedo, and Kyle Beckerman in place of Nick Besler.
While RSL had some great attacking play in the first half, Damir Kreilach had the first real golden chance of the game for the home side, when he toe-poked the ball past the Seattle defense to put himself unmarked in front of goal. Unfortunately, he sent the shot wide and the game remained deadlocked at 0-0.
Petke had to make an early sub when Plata went down with an injury and was forced to bring Bofo on in the 41st minute to replace him.
While RSL controlled the majority of possession, both teams finished the first half with no shots on frame, leaving both ‘keepers virtually untested.
RSL finally opened the scoring in the 57th minute, thanks to a header from Corey Baird. Bofo sent a ball in on the left side to Danny Acosta, who took a shot which Frei deflected. Fortunately, Baird was there to grab the rebound and sent the ball in with his head to the far post, past Stefan Frei, putting the home side up 1-0.
Luis Silva put the nail in the coffin in stoppage time, as RSL quickly launched a counter attack off a corner which Seattle sent Stefan Frei up for. Silva launched a shot from nearly half field and landed in the back of an empty net, securing the 2-0 win for the home side.
Stealing the full nine points from the last three games, and good for 11 wins in their last 12 home games, RSL has launched themselves further up the standings and looks to keep chugging forward with many more home games on the horizon.
