RSL played well...until the break.

MLS: Colorado Rapids at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 5 Four saves, but two goals got past him. His save on Edgar Castillo was pretty good considering the circumstances, but he didn’t hit it out so it stayed alive and Serna notched a goal near side.

Aaron Herrera - 6 Herrera had a good first start in MLS. He played with confidence and was one of the few defenders without any glaring errors.

Nick Besler - 5.5 Besler played well enrough to draw ire from McBean, so that’s something. He filled in pretty well considering he hasn’t seen significant minutes for a while.

Justen Glad - 5.5 Glad had a lot of great individual plays and a couple simple mistakes that cost RSL including a heavy touch and then an attempted ball poke that he missed. Both led to clear chances for Colorado.

Brooks Lennon - 5.5 Lennon got into offense a bit more than usual but seemed frustrated as time went on leading him to commit needless fouls.

Damir Kreilach - 6.5 Kreilach had a great header goal to start things off and had a nice veteran presence but for the soft penalty that put Colorado back in the game.

Kyle Beckerman - 6 Beckerman dug in on some hard-nosed tackles and tried to reinvigorate the team after the weather delay, but alas, Colorado took the reins.

Albert Rusnak - 6 Rusnak gave his teammates some good looks, but only one of them ended up in the net.

Jefferson Savarino - 5.5 Savarino notched a nice assist to Plata, but had way too many soft giveaways to give him a higher score.

Corey Baird - 5 Baird simply did not get much service so he had a hard time getting involved in the game as much as everyone would have liked.

Joao Plata - 7.5 Plata was RSL’s best player on the night with a beautifully placed assist to Kreilach and a skilled finish on his run-up goal. He nearly had a brace except for Tim Howard coming up big to prevent it. There is an argument to be made that Plata is RSL’s best player. He is now the sole lead goalscorer for Real, but for whatever reason, is not seeing consistent time on the field.

Substitutions

Bofo Saucedo - 6 Bofo had a couple good looks as a sub that would have sealed the game for RSL. He was an effective substitution.
