Saturday night, Albert Rusnak put Real Salt Lake on his shoulders and may have almost single-handedly saved the Claret and Cobalt’s playoff hopes. Now, his 93rd minute game tying goal has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, and I am here to tell all of you why it is important for us as a fan base to make sure that he wins it.
For the last several weeks, there has been a lot of frustration from the fan base directed toward the team, specifically in reference to the ability to consistently score and get the positive results needed to push this team into the MLS Cup playoffs. Believe it or not, the players are very aware of the fan base and what they are saying, and they take a lot of that personally. Albert Rusnak clearly took it personally following the first half in Houston on Saturday, going on a halftime rant that garnered attention across the league. He then came out and played completely lights out in the second half, concluding with the game tying golazo and the game winning penalty.
As RSL fans, Rusnak’s heart and tenacity to see the game through surely excited us. It was definitely thrilling for me to see RSL come back and win a game late on the road, and I loved seeing Albert’s passion and excitement for the club. Now, it is our turn as fans to show Albert how much we support and appreciate all of his hard work at the club. I know it seems like a small, but things like winning the goal of the week matter to the players, especially when those awards are based upon fan voting.

So with that in mind, I say this to all RSL fans: Take the time to go and vote for Albert Rusnak to win the goal of the week! Take the couple of minutes that it takes to show Rusnak and the team that we support them and that we will take time to show our excitement for them when they perform well. It should be our goal as a fanbase to not only help Rusnak win goal of the week, but also to do everything we can to show the players that we support them, especially when they put everything on the line for the club and for the fans.
