RSL vs. Chicago Fire, Player of the Match: Damir Kreilach

Damir Douses the Fire

MLS: Colorado Rapids at Real Salt Lake Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Who else other than the Croatian? The Vukovar native bagged two goals bringing his yearly total to five and six.

He nearly got a third late in the game but missed out on completing the first hat trick for RSL since May 2014 by mishandling the big opportunity. Excellent statistics shone across the remainder of the board as well accumulating a total of three shots on target, winning 10 out of 20 duels completing just short of 80% of his passes.

Despite playing less than a full season, he is quickly becoming a fan favorite with his awkward smile, team oriented attitude, and incredible accent.

Other Contenders

Joao Plata - continued his bright run of form playing an intergral role to the Real Salt Lake offense as evident by the three shots that he put on target as well as the three additional chances he created. One of which was a marvelous assist to the aforementioned Damir Kreilach.

Nick Rimando - while wasn’t overly tested, he still saved three important shots and punched an additional errant ball wayward.

Jefferson Savarino - continues to be a workhorse creating three separate chances, one of which was the game winner. Jefferson scored an additional poacher goal of his own but it was ultimately called offsides, although narrowly.

Marcelo Silva - while not playing the sexiest position being a centerback, he had an astounding night. He cleared seven, yes seven errant balls, made three interceptions and completed two tackles all the while completing 92% of his passes.
