In yet another coaching change for the Monarchs, Assistant Coach Danny Cruz was released today in order to accept a coaching position with John Hackworth at Louisville FC in USL’s eastern conference. Hackworth was the Danny’s coach for most of his time with the Philadelphia Union in MLS and as a youth player. Cruz transferred from the San Francisco Deltas during the course of the Monarchs 2018 season and was moved to Assistant Coach in February of 2018.

Jason Mims, a member of the RSL Academy coaching staff since March of 2018, and David Horst, who suffered a season ending Achilles tear while appearing in a Monarchs game in June, will immediately join the staff of Interim Head Coach Jamison Olave.

Mims established a men’s soccer program at the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2011 and compiled a 39-22-12 record building up to a NCAA playoff berth in 2017. Jason will move within the organization to become a permanent assistant coach while the appointment of Horst is temporary and is set to end at the close of the season.

The Monarchs, who have already clinched a playoff spot, face Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the penultimate home game of the 2018 season on Saturday evening seeking to end a string 6 matches without a victory which includes five losses. This has dropped the Monarchs to third in the USL Western Conference table and set up a dogfight for the final two first round home games with Sacramento Republic FC and Portland Timbers 2. The Republic sit only a point behind the Monarchs with a game in hand while Portland is two points behind and even on matches.

Following Saturday’s match with the Switchbacks the Monarchs host OKC Energy FC on Wednesday, October 3rd, and finish the season on the road at Fresno on the 13th.
