Real Salt Lake kicked off their 2019 MLS SuperDraft with the 17th pick in the first round by selecting midfielder Sam Brown out of Harvard University.
Brown spent his college years with Harvard, playing a total of 62 games, while starting 61 of them. He notched three goals and 12 assists in total while carrying a redshirt status his senior year, having not played in the 2017/18 season.
As a junior in 2016 he received the Ivy League and NSCAA Player of the Week award while grabbing two assists and sending in a game winner against Dartmouth. Honors in previous years include the All-Ivy League second team, NSCAA All-East Region third team, and the Ivy League Honor Roll.
Brown’s addition to the RSL squad only strengthens and deepens the midfield, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him start to get minutes with the Real Monarchs before he makes his way to the first team.
