Utah Royals FC have selected three forwards in the 2019 End of Season Re-Entry wire. Among those selected were Kyra Carusa, Cali Farquharson and Arielle Ship. All three players are forwards, which should bring a new spark to Utah’s attack for 2020.
Carusa, who is 23, was selected in the NWSL College Draft by Sky Blue FC, but she opted to go play abroad with Le Have AC instead. Before entering the draft, she played for Stanford for her first three seasons of college soccer, scoring 25 goals and recording 21 assists. She played her final college season for Georgetown and scored 10 goals and 12 assists in 25 games for them.
Farquharson has had a troubled start to her pro career. She played for Arizona State University before becoming a professional with the Washington Spirit. She was drafted by the Spirit in 2016 but missed her rookie season with an ACL tear. Farquharson played 541 minutes and got six starts for the Spirit in 2019.
Ship also has spent the last handful of years with the Spirit. She made 24 appearances and recorded two goals and four assists in that time. Ship was initially drafted by Reign FC but was traded for her now teammate, Diana Matheson. Ship tore her ACL in her rookie season after her first match which caused a delayed start to her professional career as well.
These are the first of the new additions Utah has made to their roster for the 2020 season as the post season roster moves are just getting under way.
