According to Anthony DiCicco, Utah Royals FC Head Coach Laura Harvey will coach the next US U-18 WNT camp as the team prepares for a four-nation tournament set for January 21-February 1 in Florida between the USA, China, Norway, and the Netherlands.

Harvey’s role will be temporary. She will remain as Utah’s head coach as she only coaches the camp, so the reports say. There has been no official word from the club or U.S. Soccer on the temporary appointment.

This is not the first time that Harvey has been linked with U.S. Soccer. Harvey coached the U-23 USWNT in Spring 2017, after coaching them through a January camp. When she stepped down as Seattle Reign FC’s head coach and general manager in 2017, she reportedly took on an expanded role with the United States Soccer Federation. It was believed she would eventually have a permanent coaching role with U.S. Soccer, but it fell through, and she became Utah’s head coach instead.

Currently, there appears to be a shortage of coaches in the U.S. Soccer Youth system. The U.S. Youth Program has zero head coaches on the men’s side and one on the women’s side.
