RSL grabbed a win in their home opener against the Vancouver, ousting the Canadian side by a scoreline of 1-0 thanks to Albert Rusnak.
Real Salt Lake got off to a great start, taking the lead early on when Corey Baird was taken down in the box. Albert Rusnak took the penalty kick and sent it easily into the top corner to put the home side up 1-0 in the 21st minute.
RSL controlled the majority of possession in the first half, securing 52% as opposed to Vancouver’s 48%, and enjoyed a 1-0 lead after the first 45.
DP striker Sam Johnson subbed on for Baird not long into the second half, hoping for some fresh legs to send toward the goal.
Vancouver had a golden chance in the 68th minute off a header, but Rimando was quick to grab it and snuff out the attacking play.
Most of the second half was spent sharing possession and trading attacking play back and forth. Both teams had some decent chances to take the lead.
Kreilach had a header on goal in the 85th minute which was tipped by the ‘Caps keeper and bounced off the post, within just inches of going in.
Shortly after, Rusnak had a great shot on goal but was saved by the keeper to keep the game at 1-0.
