The Real Questions: May 23, 2019

The 2018 MLS Cup Champions, the last place team in the NWSL and the third place team in USL Championship come to town this week: How do our teams stack up?

Lucas Muller - RSL Soapbox

Real Salt Lake : Can RSL add another loss to Atlanta’s loss column?

Atlanta United are an interesting team right now. They are 5-1-0 in their last six games. That seems like an impressive record, but before those five wins, they had just one win in their first six matches, so what should we expect from this team? We should plan for Atlanta to come into SLC kind of angry. Their last match versus the RedBulls ended 1-0 despite Atlanta being up a man for more than half the game. They’re going to want to get their winning ways back, like Atlanta of 2018. RSL is entirely capable of beating this Atlanta team, but it’s not going to be as easy as we may have thought throughout March and April. The RedBull game may have just been an off week, and RSL needs to be prepared for Atlanta to come out with a lot of intensity.

Utah Royals FC : How important is it for Utah Royals FC to have a multi-goal game?

In short, incredibly. Utah Royals are five games into the 2019 season and have only scored one goal in each of their games. 2 times this has not been enough to get the full three points. Utah needs to score more than one goal. With their game this week being against a struggling Orlando side who has a -11 goal differential and has given up multiple goals three times this season, Utah needs to score multiple goals. With Utah losing Rachel Corsie to the World Cup the defense is going to be entirely different this weekend, and Nicole Barnhart can’t save everything. If Utah wants to get three points and put themselves back on an upward trend, two or more goals is a must this weekend.

Real Monarchs SLC : What will it take to get a result over Phoenix?

The Monarchs are struggling a lot right now and their match this weekend has the potential to be incredibly difficult for them. Phoenix Rising is 4-5-2 on the season in third place. However, they are away. Phoenix’s away record isn’t fantastic. They haven’t won an away game in a while. RMSLC looked better last week in their 1-1 draw versus OKC, if they play their game at home, a win is possible but not going to be easy. If RMSLC can score first, they’ll be far better off to get the full three points. Phoenix has not gotten a win when scored on first this season.
