After being called in to the preliminary roster for Venezuela’s 2019 Copa America campaign, Jefferson Savarino has been handed a spot in the final roster heading to the tournament.
Savarino, 22, has been growing into a bigger role with Venezuela, though he has yet to appear in a competitive match for his nation. While he’s certainly not guaranteed a starting spot, the mere fact that he’s included means he has a strong chance.
Depending on Venezuela’s performance in the cup, Savarino could miss up to four MLS matches with Real Salt Lake, and he will certainly miss the club’s U.S. Open Cup match against LAFC.
- June 22 @ Chicago
- June 29 vs. Sporting Kansas City
- July 3 vs. Columbus
- July 6 @ San Jose
From a club-issued release, RSL general manager Craig Waibel:
Copa America is such a prestigious tournament and for Jefferson to have the opportunity to represent his country on that stage is tremendous. He continues to develop on and off the field and this is a great reward for his work.
