Real Salt Lake’s opener against Sporting Kansas City is one of those things that just has to be seen to be believed.
Sam Johnson, by now a true and verified goalscoring force for the club, netted his sixth goal of the campaign with a poached effort from a well-executed corner kick. But while Johnson finished the play, it was made in slightly less expected fashion.
Watch.

See that pass from Damir Kreilach? That only happens because he backs up into space when Sporting Kansas City has apparently gone for a zonal marking approach. This is clearly designed, as Kreilach starts the move without hesitation, and he’s done it with the first opportunity of the match.
His flick back in is perfectly placed for Kyle Beckerman to get his curly-haired-head in the way, and his flick to Sam Johnson on the back post is just perfect. Oh, and the finish? Well, who else would score that? He’s proving every time he plays that he deserves to start every single match.
