Utah Royals FC had a midweek matchup this week versus Sky Blue FC. Last time these two teams met URFC lost 1-0, so there was a bit of vengeance coming into this one. Utah Royals FC was not going to lose against this team again.

Things started off a little nervy for Utah. Just minutes in Sky Blue put a rocket of shot at Nicole Barnhart that she spilled almost creating a second opportunity for Sky Blue. Things went a little back and forth after that but Utah was able to regain control of the game.

Around the 15th minute Utah started firing on all cylinders. A shot by captain Becky Sauerbrunn that went just wide had Rio Tinto rocking.

Sky Blue got another good look minutes later but thanks to a heroic header by Rachel Corsie, URFC was able to keep things level.

The 25th minute is where Utah really found their stride. In the span of 4 minutes Utah was able to find two goals, both scored by Christen Press. Press, her clinical finishing, and a beautiful assist from Lo’eau Labonta sent Utah into halftime up 2-0.

Coming out of halftime Utah kept their foot on the gas and scored a goal right out of the gate. Amy Rodriguez scored a one touch wonder off a pass from Mallory Weber to give Utah a 3-0 lead.

After that Rachel Corsie had two great looks on goal but opted to pass them and was unable to capitalize.

In the 58’ Labonta went down in a bad tackle that resulted in no foul called initially but a double yellow to Sky Blue players Kenie Wright and Jen Hoy.

Following the tackle Labonta continued to play and minutes later got a shot off that tested Sky Blue keeper Kailen Sheridan.

Utah would wait until the 64th minute to make their first sub bringing off Katie Stengel for Gunny Jonsdottir. Then in the 68th Utah brought off Rodriguez to bring on Erika Tymrak.

Utah settled down the match after their two subs but still did continue to press. It wasn’t with the same intensity as earlier in the game but they created a lot opportunities still.

Later in the 80th minute Utah made their final sub after a slew of chances to bring on Makenzy Doniak to bring off Weber.

Despite fighting for the entirety of the second half to get her hat-trick, Press would be unable to accomplish the feat. This match would end 3-0 in favor of Utah bringing Utah 3 points at home once again.

URFC’s next match is Sunday versus the Reign at 12 PM MST.
