Player Ratings: Portland 1-0 RSL

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Portland Timbers Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 6.5 The legend had five saves on the night, a couple of which required a good amount of skill. He probably could have reacted a bit quicker to Valeri’s shot, but it was a pretty good night for him.

Aaron Herrera - 4.5 Herrera gave away the ball in some really bad spots and was lucky that Portland did not take full advantage of them. He had a good shot on goal towards the end of the game as well a some really good recovery defensive moments, but really should have kept the ball on frame on the last shot of the match.

Nedum Onuoha - 5.5 Outside of Valeri’s goal, Nedum had a pretty solid night. Unfortunately, he did not apply pressure on the Timbers captain quick enough.

Justen Glad - 6 Glad was under a lot of pressure through most of the night and stood up to the challenge. He prevented Portland from doing too much of anything in the second half.

Donny Toia - 4 Toia seemed to give the ball away a lot and got beat on his side. This was not his best game by any means. The good news is based on other performances this season, he should bounce back.

Damir Kreilach - 5.5 Kreilalch did some positive things to create scoring chances for RSL, but the other attackers did not take advantage of the situation.

Everton Luiz - 5 This was a quite game for what we are used to from Luiz. He simply did not have the effect he normally does.

Kelyn Rowe - 5 Rowe’s debut was a difficult one to assess. He had some really nice moments, but also had moments like the one where he gave the ball away cheaply which led to the lone Portland goal.

Albert Rusnak - 6 Rusnak was RSL’s most dangerous player on the night Even if the attempts did not end up in the net, three of his shots were on goal.

Jefferson Savarino - 6 Savarino got into the box a lot and sent the balls in front of goal, but they typically did not reach the intended target. He looked like he was going to break through at any moment, but it never came to fruition.

Corey Baird - 5.5 Baird did some good things, but did not have the situational awareness that we needed on a couple of occasions.

Substitutes:

Sam Johnson - 5 Johnson really only had one or two touches on the ball and was not given enough time to have a big effect on the game.

Joao Plata - 6 Plata somehow came away with two shots in 12 minutes and created some chaos in the space he was given. He also needed more time.
