I wish all I had to talk about were great things. We have that playoff spot and we earned it ourselves. We’re in a position to potentially earn a home match in the playoffs. But it wasn’t all Szechuan sauce.
The bad bits
We didn’t look like a playoff team until around the 70th minute. It’s a rough time of the year to be cooling off. Now’s when we need to heat it up. I have zero idea what the rest of this season has in store.
The unpredictability of what this team has done over the past couple of weeks makes me nervous. We could make another historic run. Or we could crap out. Or we could maybe do okay but not quite good enough. I simply have no idea.
The good bits
We have it in us to do awesome. There were beautiful moments of connected play and grit tonight. It’s going to be fun to watch. We’ve fought through with some strong perseverance. Tonight was one of those nights. It might be our key to a strong playoff run.
The other thing
One of my major questions: does the turbulence in the front office bleed into the team? Does it inspire them to go on a drive? Does it demoralize? I hope it doesn’t play into the picture in a negative way.
End of an era
Tony Beltran and Nick Rimando being honored tonight was awesome. That leaves us with Kyle and a bit of Plata and Mulholland. Now what? We watch for greatness. Who brings it next?
