The Knee Jerk: RSL vs FC Dallas

Two hundred channels and nothing but cats

MLS: FC Dallas at Real Salt Lake Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

I think we had about 3,720 shots this match. You can check me on this, but it’s somewhere near that.

One point is worth nothing at this stage of the season. We hit Dallas hard, created a ton of chances, and we just couldn’t finish our chances. So now we stuck clawing at the bottom of the bucket.

Dallas did not come out strong in the first half. We had them on the ropes. RSL played some nice soccer. It just wasn’t enough.

I feel the season slipping away. We might crawl into the playoffs again, but it’s feeling like 2017 felt. We’re just not going to make it.

Let’s be fair, though. If there’s a year where we don’t sneak into the playoffs, this one I’m okay with. MLS Cup isn’t going to be worth much more than the MLS is Back Tournament Championship Trophy. It’s going to come with a massive asterisk.

This club is still sailing tumultuous waters, and we’re far from clear of the waves. It’s going to be an interesting ride into new ownership, but hopefully we’ll get ownership that’s interested in really investing in the on-field product over the real estate value of the franchise.

Please be courteous and wear your masks.

Overreactions

There’s just too much going on in the world and our country right now for me to get too emotionally involved in an RSL result.

I’m losing my mind that RSL aren’t winning more matches, especially at home, in our fortress, at one of the few stadia allowing fans at matches, at a time when RSL fans really need something to be happy about to take our minds off of everything that’s going on in the world and our country right now.

I hope Kyle retires on exactly 500 games played.
