First the French site L’Èquipière reported the news last week and now the Salt Lake Tribune added to those reports that French goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi and German midfielder Dzenifer Marozsán will indeed transfer to the U.S. to play for Utah Royals FC. Both will leave Olympique Lyonnais at the end of the season. Bouhaddi confirmed her departure from Lyon via Twitter on Saturday.
Neither Utah Royals FC or the NWSL have confirmed the news. When RSL Soapbox reached out to the club to confirm the reports, they said, “No comment.” Additionally, player signings are not announced until after they have signed contracts. Neither Bouhaddi or Marozsán have signed a contact yet.
With the league being in hiatus due to COVID-19, all transactions are on hold at the moment, but according to the Tribune’s reporting, these two signings were agreed to and sent to the league already. The goal is to start June 27, but that is a tentative date as the global pandemic continues to spread.
Bouhaddi has been with the French super club since 2009, and Marozsán since 2016. Both are regulars with their national team.
These two signings would undoubtedly be a major addition to the club, especially on the midfield with Marozsán considered one of the best in the world. An addition of another goalkeeper is interesting as the Royals currently have Nicole Barnhart and Abby Smith.
