It’s yet another hour in what is the most maddening day in Real Salt Lake history, and the latest is a report from The Athletic describing a history of racial abuse from Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen.
It describes an instance in which Dell Loy Hansen makes a “joke” about lynching in an interaction with Kelyn Acosta: “Hey Craig, when are we gonna lynch this guy?’,” he said in an absolutely heinous statement.
It describes Hansen as using — not once, but twice — the ‘N’ word in an interaction with the club’s equipment manager: “He runs up to (Harter), and is like ‘Hey, I have a beef with you. You can’t be doing this, you can’t be doing that,’ and all of a sudden, n-word drops,’”
It describes an instance when Hansen, in an interaction with a hoodie-wearing Aaron Maund in an elevator, described him as a “thug.”
Andy Williams describes him as “Donald Sterling part two” in a reference to the ousted LA Clippers owner:
“That’s just how he is,” said Williams, who is Black. “He’s a fucking racist, to be honest. I’ve been in situations where it’s like (former LA Clippers owner) Donald Sterling. He says something, and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, what did he just say?’ It’s Donald Sterling part two. It’s just unbelievable. It’s crazy how he doesn’t see that the stuff that he says affects people.”

It’s clear what has to happen. Dell Loy Hansen is an untenable owner in Major League Soccer.
