Report: Serie A side Benevento interested in Aaron Herrera

Will the right back make the move abroad?

According to SoyCalcio.com, a Spanish website that does reporting on all things Italian soccer, a mid-table Serie A team is interested in acquiring Aaron Herrera. Benevento currently sits in the 11th spot in Serie A, a mere 12 points behind Juventus.

Herrera has without a doubt been one of Real Salt Lake’s most consistent high-performers over the course of a couple of tumultuous seasons with the club. The right back has made a lot of progress over the past couple of years with RSL and there have been rumblings over that time that he could potentially be a great fit for the U.S. Men’s National Team in that position. A move like this would undoubtedly raise his profile further and garner more serious attention from both Gregg Berhalter as well as bigger clubs in Europe. It is not uncommon for Benevento players to make a leap to Champions League caliber clubs after showing well there for a season or two which surely makes this an attractive move for Herrera and, if things play out that way, a lucrative deal for RSL.

There are a lot of questions around how much a deal like this would be worth to RSL and Serie A and if they can come to an agreement. If Herrera ended up in Italy, it would hurt to lose a player with his quality who has not yet hit his ceiling. On the flip side, it would be a great move for him and would lend a great deal of legitimacy to Real Salt Lake and its academy system.
