Player Ratings: RSL 3-4 San Jose

RSL’s defense broke down too many times.

MLS: San Jose Earthquakes at Real Salt Lake Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

David Ochoa - 5 Ochoa had a decent game, but at the end of the day four goals found their way in the net. The overall stat line was two saves to four goals.

Aaron Herrera - 5.5 Herrera picked up another assist, but this was not his best showing on the defensive side of the ball.

Erik Holt - 4.5 Holt was in the mix when RSL’s defense lost its way and miscommunication seemed to be a theme.

Justen Glad - 3.5 This was a strange match in which Glad appeared stronger on the offensive side than on the defensive. He was able to push the ball forward, but got beat at a couple critical points in the game that allowed San Jose to score.

Pablo Ruiz - 5 Ruiz had a very average if not disjointed showing. He was unable to get in any sort of rhythm.

Andrew Brody - 5 This was a pretty average game for Brody with not a lot of highlights to speak of.

Nick Besler - 4 Besler was forced out of position on a few occasions and then got embarrassed in RSL’s end and essentially gifted San Jose a dagger goal.

Justin Meram- 5 Meram did not have anywhere near the kind of game he had as a sub against Dallas. He tried to get the ball further up the field but got dispossessed multiple times.

Albert Rusnak - 7.5 Two more goals from four shots on goal is a pretty good game. Unfortunately, they did not lead to any points for RSL.

Damir Kreilach - 6 Kreilach got an assist on a nice give and go play with Rusnak. He was unable to finish a couple of scoring chances he had that he will surely wish he had done better with.

Rubio Rubin - 5.5 Rubin had a couple of looks at the goal but was unable to place the ball in the right spot. It ultimately cost RSL down the stretch.

Substitutes

Everton Luiz - 5.5 Everton did not make an errant pass and shored up the middle a little bit more than what it had been to that point.

Maikel Chang - 6 Chang got a late goal to give RSL a little bit of life but was pretty quiet for much of the match.

Jonathan Menendez - 5.5 Menendez gave RSL a little bit of a new energy which was desperately needed. He created two or three shots through his own will.

Anderson Julio - 6 Julio once again came off the bench and pushed San Jose to the edge when RSL was nearly able to find an equalizer. He ended with an assist instead of a goal this time.
