Welcome to March, it’s time for MLS preseason! Hopefully we’ll get some news about ownership, and finally get to see the team in action again.

MLS got some unfortunate news just before the weekend. The primary backer of future expansion team Sacramento Republic FC has pulled his support citing rising costs due to the pandemic. MLS will search for a new investor in hopes of salvaging the bid. [SSD][MLS]


  • 100 years ago today (March 1st) FIFA elected Jules Rimet as president. He served for 33 years, and was the driving force in creating the World Cup competition. [FIFA]

  • US Soccer overturns it’s policy requiring players to stand during the National Anthem. [USAT]
  • US Soccer’s Athlete’s Council has voted to remove Seth Jahn after he made racial comments during a meeting. [Guardian] The decision reveals that US Soccer still has a long way to go to eliminate racism. [SSF]
