Real Salt Lake’s first opponent of the 2021 season at home has been set, and it’s a big one: Sporting Kansas City on May 1.
Oh, and their first opponent of the season, too — that’s Minnesota United on April 24, a team we really should have been better than for multiple years now, but we’ve somehow managed to screw that one up.
But that first game. That’s a doozy. RSL’s biggest rival — all stemming from actual games and not an MLS construct — will be the first opponent at whatever Rio Tinto Stadium is named at that point.
Do you think RSL stands a chance? I’m wondering the same thing myself. I honestly have not paid too much attention to SKC this offseason, mostly because it’ll have been something like six-plus months since we last played by the time we set our feet to the field.
The press release indicates that RSL is working with the Utah Department of Health and MLS to get fans in the stadium in 2021. Here’s hoping that we all continue to wear masks and social distance so we can — eventually — get this thing behind us.
