In what should be fairly routine news for us here in the RSL community, a reporter for The Athletic has once again broken news about our team. This time, it’s Jeff Rueter, who’s reporting that Matt Taylor is joining the club’s coaching staff.
Matt Taylor is joining #RSL as a first-team assistant coach, sources tell The Athletic.

Taylor had been UCLA’s assistant since 2018, where he focused on developing young attackers — including RSL homegrown Milan Iloski, who was an All-American in 2019.
Taylor, formerly an assistant coach at UCLA, had a fascinating career as a soccer player: He graduated from UCLA in 2004 before going on to play for Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City) and Chivas USA in MLS, Portland Timbers in the USL, then Hollywood United in the USL-PDL. From there, he bounced across Germany’s lower divisions, playing as high as the 2. Bundesliga and as low as the fifth tier of German football.
Taylor would join Pablo Mastroeni and Ignacio Hernandez in joining the coaching staff during the offseason.
No confirmation has yet been offered by the club. We have reached out to RSL Communications for confirmation on the move and will update this story if any is received.
