Real Salt Lake’s pursuit of Jonathan Menendez appears to have come to a fruitful conclusion, if reports out of Argentina today are to be believed.
César Luis Merlo, an Argentina-based journalist, reported today what he’s calling ‘final numbers’ for the deal: $1.35 million with a $200,000 bonus — although it’s understandably unclear what exactly the bonus would be for. (One presumes it’s appearances or goals.)

The report also indicates Menéndez will arrive in June, which means he’d join the squad right around the time that Bobby Wood could start playing for the club.
Menéndez has been contracted to Argentine side Independiente since January 2018, but he has spent considerable time on loan away from the club. In mid-2018 he went on loan to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan SC, and from mid-2019 to mid-2020, he was on loan at top-division side Talleres, the club from which Menéndez was signed prior to joining Independiente.
While he has played primarily as a left-sided winger in his career, according to Transfermarkt, he has also been deployed on the right and through the center. It is difficult immediately to envision the way the side is deployed with Menéndez, Julio, Wood, Rusnak and Rubin all competing for minutes.
We’ve reached out to RSL Communications for clarification, but as club policy is to not comment on pending transfers, don’t expect anything until a deal is completely over the line and announced.
