Real Salt Lake announced the signing of Argentine winger Jonathan Menendez, a 27-year-old Independiente player, with the club using targeted allocation money to finalize a three-year contract.

Menendez’s career, to this point, has largely consisted of time spent in Argentina, with moves between Independiente and Talleres multiple times from 2016 to present. Early in his career, he spent time with Sevilla’s reserve team, and in 2018, he spent a short loan period at Al-Rayyan SC in Qatar.

From a club-issued release, RSL general manager Elliot Fall:

We are incredibly excited to add a player of Jony’s quality and experience to our roster. He will provide us another dynamic attacking option across our frontline. His ability on the ball and in combination will complement our roster seamlessly.

RSL head coach Freddy Juarez:

He is a player that fits our style of play. He is dynamic and fearless. He wants to get behind the opponent and attack 1v1, but also is a player that can play between the lines for some combination play. We are excited to have him.
