Real Salt Lake striker Bobby Wood — er, Hamburger SV striker Bobby Wood? — has declared his timeline for joining the club: three weeks, according to an interview conducted with Transfermarkt.
Wood, 28, agreed to join RSL earlier in the year, and he and the Hamburg side agreed an early termination of his contract, which allowed Wood to join Real Salt Lake. Reports at the time indicated Wood’s arrival stateside was going to be delayed pending the birth of his child in Denmark.
From the interview:
“Once I have the feeling that everything is okay, then I will fly to America, my family will join me later. I think I should be over there in about three weeks.”
Considering a period for quarantine, that would put Wood’s earliest possible debut as early June, but there are plenty of unknowns involved in that assessment. First, his three weeks is an estimate; second, he will have just gone through a bit of an offseason, though a shorter than usual one; third, there are always unknowns with team selection.
We’ll report more when it makes the rounds, but for now, this is a nice bit of hope for RSL fans. Of course, if things continue to go well without Wood, RSL coach Freddy Juarez might just have a bit of selection problem on his hands.
