Today Real Monarchs SLC announced the signing of forward Charlie Wehan who recently completed his collegiate career with the Cardinal at Stanford University. Wehan will be asked to provide additional offensive energy going forward for the Monarchs. Charlie is the younger brother of Chris Wehan, who has enjoyed a long career in the USL Championship with Reno 1868, New Mexico United and Orange County SC.
Technical Director Kurt Schmid indicated that “Charlie is a bright-young attacking talent who enjoyed a successful career with Stanford, and we are pleased to have him join the Real Monarchs, adding offensive depth to our squad,”
Following the 1-0 loss in Edinburg last Saturday, where Andrew Putna and Justin Portillo gifted the Toros with the win against a very heavy MLS player squad, the Monarchs next take the field this Friday. It will be the first match of four against Mountain Division rivals El Paso Locomotive FC.
The Monarchs continue to struggle to find the goals and their total 5 goals through 7 matches is tied for second to bottom in the USL Championship. The situation becomes even more dire where you recall that 4 of the 5 goals have been scored by players on loan from RSL and only one, by Ibrahim Bance, by a player signed by the Monarchs. As Real Salt Lake begins the condensed portion of their schedule, such loans will likely become less frequent and the Monarchs will be left to find their own offensive mojo.
Real Monarchs roster as of June 9th, 2021
Goalkeepers (1): Jimmy Slayton
Defenders (5): Kyle Adams, James Moberg, Jaziel Orozco, Kevin Saucedo, Timi Sobowale
Midfielders (5): Sam Brown, Brayan Gomez, Josimar Quintero, Ibrahim Bancé, Julio Benitez
