It’s a surprisingly newsy Wednesday morning, and the latest is a report from Spence Checketts about a shock signing of a center back.
That center back, according to a report from ESPN 700’s Spence Checketts, is Toni Datkovic, and it even appears that the signing snuck in before the closing of the June transfer window. That news was later confirmed by Alex Vejar of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Datkovic, 27, comes to RSL from Aris in Greece and is good friends with Damir Kreilach.
Solid transfer window continues for Elliot Fall and his staff.
I’m told #RSL will announce the signing of Croatian defender Toni Datković. @spencechecketts first on the news.

The signing is particularly remarkable, given there were no rumblings about Datkovic coming to MLS until this morning.
Datkovic, 27, joins from Greek side Aris, but he most recently played on loan at FC Cartagena, a La Liga 2 side. His career has seen him play in Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, and Greece since joining a non-youth side in 2012.
He featured regularly for Cartagena after apparently being out of contention for Aris.
If you’re just here for a YouTube highlight reel with some music behind it, well, you’re in luck. Anyway, as expected, there’s an explicit language warning for the music, if you’re worried about that sort of thing.
