At the beginning of the year if someone had said this would be the second time Maikel Chang won player of the match, not many people may have expected it. A lot of RSL Nation may not have even known who he was. But tonight’s showing against the LA Galaxy showed RSL nation just why Chang is a name not to forget.
David James said it in the broadcast, Chang’s performance against the Galaxy showed Freddy Juarez why he deserved the start over other people on the bench. Simply, this game was changed because of the way Chang played.
Sure he scored the second goal, which was a beaut with his left foot.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!

But more than that, he was a consistent threat offensively. He was creating chances left and right and helping RSL to maintain possession. Real Monarchs SLC fans have seen it for years, the consistency that Chang brings. He’s always willing to fight and work hard for his team. That’s what he showed on the pitch tonight. Even though he subbed out with 15 minutes to play, the 75 minutes he gave were top notch and that’s something that you can always expect from Chang.

Chang is a difference maker for Real Salt Lake in just about every game he plays in.
Another shout from this one does go to David Ochoa once again, he is dealing with a really disorganized backline these days and is doing a great job at being as good as the veterans in this league.
With an inferior goalkeeper, RSL’s season looks a lot uglier and that goal differential is worse than the +5 its currently at.
RSL may have dropped more points at home, but the individual performances from Chang and Ochoa are a beacon of hope for what is hopefully a good future.
