Real Salt Lake finished their first game against expansion side Austin FC with a 1-0 win, thanks to the lone goal from Bobby Wood in the first half. The home side heavily outshot the visitors 14-9 overall with 8-1 on frame. This is the first win for RSL after going winless in their last three.
Bobby Wood scored his second goal for the club when Jony Menendez sent in a perfect ball from the far right side of the attacking area. The ball, seemingly magnetized to Wood’s head, bounced off Bobby perfectly and past Brad Stuver, putting the home side up 1-0 about 10 minutes before the half.
Real Salt Lake had plenty of chances throughout the second half, bringing their attacking play to Austin while coming close a handful of times. Stuver stood on his head to keep the home side off the score sheet.
Ultimately neither team were able to find the back of the net in the second half and the game ended 1-0 with the home side taking all three points, snapping their three-game winless streak.
