The Knee Jerk: RSL vs Houston

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Real Salt Lake Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

I don’t know how to feel right now. It started so smooth, got really rough, and ended well.

Houston outplayed us for most of this game. Just like Austin outplayed us for most of their game. RSL got more points, though. The scoreline is all that matters. Six points of six points at home against Western Conference opponents is a good thing. It is.

We now lead the middling pack in the Western Conference: seven points out from the four up top, sitting in 5th place, and four points above 9th placed San Jose. We’re on the good side of the fulcrum. For now.

Let’s talk about the eye test, though. We played ugly. Two ugly matches but six points to show for it becomes something that we can all forget later.

IF.

If RSL keeps on the good side of the fulcrum.

If the ugly way RSL is playing doesn’t get eaten apart against stronger opponents.

If, as Ian said with his metaphor in his earlier article, RSL can put the hood back on this jalopy.

We’ll all be waiting and watching. Let’s hope we can grind out another win this weekend in Colorado.

Overreactions

I’m just sitting here scratching my head. I’ve forgotten what ninety minutes of sexy RSL soccer looks like.
