The Knee Jerk: RSL vs Colorado

MLS: Real Salt Lake at Colorado Rapids Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Overreactions

I’ve never hated Colorado more than I do right now. I’m packed with vitriolic hatred. It finally feels like a rivalry again.

Tonight’s result feels robbed. It feels like the Rocky Mountain Cup was stolen, not won. Handed to Colorado by rough VAR calls that were so clear and obvious that it took the referee minutes of watching his monitor to decide how clearly and obviously offside we were on those plays. They were too damn close for clear and obvious.

Calmer Reactions

That being said, it’s kinda nice to actually have a rivalry here again. We’ve pushed them around like like our pawns on a chess board for years. Now they’re pushing back. That’s good. It’ll force us to be better. Hell, we stole their Mastroeni, they should be furious with us. Now we need to use that Mastroeni to smash back. To get better. To take back the Rocky Mountain Cup next year. That thing belongs in Utah.

Despite hating Colorado more now that I ever have, we actually played a rather decent 70ish minutes tonight. Colorado’s bench options outdid our bench options and won the game for them.

I am so torn on how I feel about Anderson Julio. Sometimes he wins games for us. Sometimes he doesn’t do much at all. I don’t think I like him as a starter, but he has some moves as a substitute.

It’s nice to have Glad back. I’m interested in what he and Datković can do as a pairing. And please give David Ochoa back.

Herrera is having himself a season.

Grounded Reactions

Tonight’s loss hurt. That’s a good thing. It means we were competitive. We ground out two wins and put in a sold fight in an away loss to our rivals who are in fantastic form right now. Let’s not forget that the Rapids are flying high right now. Too bad we helped them fly higher.

That’s good.
