RSL took a tough 3-2 loss against the Portland Timbers, but despite the loss my hat goes off to RSL captain Albert Rusnak.
Rusnak has caught a lot of slack this season for not contributing to the offense enough, especially for a captain theres a lot of expectations on his shoulders. His game against the Portland Timbers was a good showing. Between him and Damir Kreilach they got the two goals, but they also kept the attack alive.
It’s easy to point fingers at the defense a lot, but in this one it’s even more true. The offense was doing their part, ran through Rusnak and Kreilach, but the defense hindered them.
Rusnak got RSL on the scoresheet tonight and kept them in the game for a while, but it just wasn’t enough.
His goal was nice, though.

And, as mentioned before, Damir Kreilach continues to impress. In any moment, big or small you can count on Kreilach to be there. Having that kind of player on your team is something RSL has been missing for a long time.
Between Kreilach and Rusnak tonight, RSL arguably should’ve had a third or even fourth goal. More points dropped on this road trip may come back to bite RSL eventually, but for now the team needs to work on its defensive side of things and get back to being the dominant backline it once was.
