Anderson Julio rescued a win for Real Salt Lake at the absolute death of the match, finishing in stoppage time with as good a goal as you’ll see at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Real Salt Lake scored the opener in controversial fashion, with Damir Kreilach nodding a ball into the ground, with LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond getting a desperate paw on the ball as it spun over the goal line. A VAR check confirmed that the ball crossed the line, but to this observer, it was something I couldn’t determine without goal-line technology, myself. (Maybe someday.) Still, a goal is a goal, and it was a very nice goal.

Chicharito leveled the score, pegging back RSL with a tremendously smashed shot past David Ochoa from a set piece. RSL’s center backs found themselves unable to track the notable forward in the box, and it proved their downfall in the moment.

It was Anderson Julio who put the finishing marks on the match, though. With RSL looking nearly content with a point, he took off on a massive solo run before volleying past Bond from the edge of the box. It was a tremendous result, and it led directly to Real Salt Lake ending the match on top.
The match was one with tremendous opportunities throughout, but the majority of the notable ones fell to LA Galaxy, with David Ochoa providing heroics in goal for RSL. Despite the concession, he was vital in stopping a worse outcome.
