Real Salt Lake will have their chance at a second MLS Cup on December 7.
After beating Portland Timbers 5-2 on aggregate, with a 4-2 win for the first leg at Rio Tinto Stadium setting the wheels into motion on a conference-winning victory.
Robbie Findley strengthened Real Salt Lake's grasp on the Western Conference final when he scored a scrappy goal midway through the first half, capitalizing on a saved shot Ricketts spilled into his path. But it wasn't so easy as just being there, as he forced his way between two defenders to get a foot on the ball. Findley's goal was his second of the series.
The second half largely according to plan, with Real Salt Lake capitalizing on acres of space afforded by a Portland Timbers side desperate for goals.
It's only the second time going to the MLS Cup final, and in a season marked by some disappointment -- a US Open Cup final loss, dropping out of the Supporters Shield race -- it goes some way to erasing thoughts that this was in any way a rebuilding year.
