2013 Player Profiles: Enzo Martinez fails to break into lineup

Norm Hall

One of the more interesting storylines at Real Salt Lake in the last two years revolves around Enzo Martinez.

The hotly-tipped Generation Adidas talent never found playing time in his RSL tenure, and he has since left the club. Whether he was released or waived, he's now considering two options: 1) Rejoin the Carolina Railhawks side where he made his professional debut, or 2) Travel to Uruguay and attempt to make it in his home nation.

2013 was expected to see him at least play -- maybe to earn some minutes here and there, perhaps in the US Open Cup. But it never came, and he was left with scant few moments on the bench. He was eventually loaned to NASL side Carolina Railhawks, where he scored a couple goals and played in a few matches.

Where Martinez ends up will be vital in his push to develop into a playing professional. Will he be an MLS level player at some point? This remains to be seen.
