It may seem like Groundhog Day, because the Monarchs are traveling to Colorado Springs to take on the all too familiar Switchbacks (and Matt couldn't be more excited about it). This will be the fifth time these two teams have squared off this season between preseason, regular season, and US Open Cup play.
The Switchbacks are 6-5-0 on the season and their 18 points has them sitting at fifth in the western conference. Real Monarchs are 1-6-5 on the year, and their eight points has them at the bottom of the table in the west.
The Monarchs should be well rested as they are coming off a 10 day break, as they battled to a 2-2 draw at home versus the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 on June 3. The Switchbacks defeated Portland Timbers 2 by 3-1 margin, and pushed their home winning streak to five games.
The Monarchs played the RSL U18 team to a 2-2 draw Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium. The match not only helped the Monarchs keep their match fitness, but gave RMSLC a good idea of some talent they can draw from in the near future.
The Monarchs and the Switchbacks kickoff Saturday at 7:00 p.m. MDT.
