The loan of Amet Ramirez, a forward who made 8 appearances on the wing for the Monarchs toward the end of the 2016 season, has been terminated by mutual agreement. He has already returned to his former club, Plaza Amador in Panama.

Charles Boateng, another forward, whose loan from the West African Football Academy in the Ghanian First Capital Plus Bank Premier League was announced early in January of 2017, failed his physical with the Monarchs and his loan has been terminated.

Michael Gallagher, a 22 year-old graduate of the University of Washington who spent the 2016 season with Portland Timbers 2 in the USL, has been signed by the Monarchs for the 2017 season. While with Timbers 2 Gallagher made 21 starts primarily as a left center back, but did not see the field for the final month and a half of the season. If his name sounds familiar to Monarchs fans, it is probably in connection with the 13th minute goal scored by Mikey Orellana in the August 17th game against Timbers 2 at the RioT.

Emmanuel Ocran, a 20-year Ghana, who recently received a call up for the Ghanian national team during qualifying for the African Cup of Nations, was also signed by the Monarchs. During 2016, Ocran made 19 starts for the 2016 champions WA All-Stars of the Ghanian First Capital Plus Bank Premier League and scored two goals as a winger. His signing is still pending league and federation approval and receipt of his ITC.

This leaves the Monarchs with 14 signed players. Seven of those players, Max Lachowecki, Emilio Orozco, Nick Besler, Charlie Adams, Andrew Brody, Daniel Haber, and Chandler Hoffman have been with the parent club in Portland while the remaining players have opened camp under new head coach Mike Petke and Assistant Coach Jamison Olave here in Utah.
