Player name: Chase Minter
Position: Left Winger/Midfielder
Last club: Sacramento Republic
One thing you need to know
Following four successful years at Cal Poly where he recorded 21 assists, Minter was drafted 21st overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew. Failing to win a contract with the Crew, Minter signed with the Sacramento Republic of the USL, but managed only 6 appearances with another 3 while on loan to Tulsa in 2016.
What he brings to the team
Chase is a player who could easily play two or three positions within the scheme currently employed by RSL and the Monarchs, but is most likely to be employed as a left winger. A starter in every game during his final three years of collegiate ball, Minter is durable and full of energy. In midfield he has an incredible work rate, but is also very comfortable on the ball.
Excellent at service into the box from the left side, Minter is a good choice to play with forwards like Chandler Hoffman and Daniel Haber, who rely upon service for their goals. His three goals in preseason, and a instrumental part in another which was scored as an own goal, come as a pleasant surprise and make his case for regular playing time this season compelling.
Why you should be excited
Minter has already demonstrated that he feels at home with the Monarch and the system employed by new head coach Mike Petke. Putting the disappointments of last season behind him, this native Texan has returned to the swagger and open air of confidence demonstrated by many other sons of the Lone Star State.
Every sign indicates a major uptick in scoring for the Monarchs in their third year and Minter is well positioned to contribute both directly and indirectly. His on-field demeanor should take his to a regular starting position this year if he can avoid injury
Predictions for 2017
- Minter will record a handful (5) assists the season for the Monarchs.
- Chase will demonstrate his durability and exceed 2000 minutes as Monarch.
- Chase will manage a highlight quality goal to compete with these from college
