Ah, National Signing Day — an essential part of the U.S. soccer system as it exists now, the day marks the signature of letters of intent by high schoolers across the nation. Players from Real Salt Lake's Arizona academy are no different: The following players, according to Grande Sports Academy PR, are committed to colleges and universities.
- Andrew Brody - University of Louisville. Brody, a midfielder, recent took part in Real Salt Lake's preseason leg in Casa Grande, Ariz.
- Ive Burnett - University of South Carolina. Burnett, a full back, also took part in the Casa Grande leg of preseason.
- Trevor Hyman - Stanford University. Midfielder.
- Isaias "Junior" Juarez - University of Wisconsin: Milwaukee. Forward.
- Kostas Kotselas - University of Wisconsin: Milwaukee. Forward. Scored for RSL-AZ in the academy showcase. Apparently quite tall.
- Tony Murillo - High Point University. Midfielder. Has played with US U-18s. One of Top Drawer Soccer's highest rated midfielders for the 2013 class.
- Jose "Coco" Navarro - Marquette University. Midfielder. US Soccer Development Academy named Navarro as a West Conference 2011-12 player of the year.
- Jon Stadler - Oregon State University. Defender.
- Amer Sasivarevic - Grand Canyon University. Midfielder. Utah youth standout.
- Jon Zabassajja - Southern Methodist University. Defender (Center back). Played with RSL during preseason leg in Casa Grande.
- Brandon Johnston - Gardner Webb University. Winger. Gardner Webb University is a Christian University in North Carolina — for whatever that's worth.
- Aidan Tucker - Boston University. Forward.
- Rodrigo Uriarte - Boston University. Defender.
- Riggs Lennon - University of Virginia. Forward. Trialled with Aston Villa. Part of U.S. youth pool.
- Danny Gavin - University of Washington. Midfielder/forward.
Absent from the list is Jordan Allen, who has left the academy but would, I understand, fall under homegrown rules, should Real Salt Lake sign the young midfielder.
It is also worth noting that Benji Lopez, RSL academy standout striker, is continuing with Real Salt Lake in preseason.
