Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando have, as expected, been called up to the U.S. Men's National Team for the remaining two 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and through a bit of scheduling good fortune, they won't miss a single match for Real Salt Lake, the potential for injuries and fatigue notwithstanding.
Alvaro Saborio has been called up for Costa Rica, also an expected selection, which has provoked a bit of frustration from Jason Kreis — who only now has had Saborio in the lineup and remotely fit.
The U.S. plays against Jamaica on Friday, while Costa Rica plays against Honduras. The U.S. rounds up its qualifying with a match against Panama, and Costa Rica will face Mexico — perhaps for a chance to knock them out of the World Cup entirely.
The United States have already qualified, as have Costa Rica, which will likely make the air a bit less tense. The remaining qualified spot and the play-in spot are currently occupied by Honduras (11 points) and Panama (8 points); Mexico is sitting with eight points as well, but is behind on the goals-scored tiebreaker.
