Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio was the only RSL player involved in international play yesterday, scoring a goal and assisting on a fantastic overhead kick as Costa Rica drew 2-2 with Panama.
Saborio's goal was typical of the player, heading the ball into the corner of the net from a deep cross in. His assist for the second goal saw him pull down a difficult cross and bounce it into the path of Bryan Ruiz, whose overhead kick drew the Ticos level.
No Real Salt Lake players were involved in the United States' 2-1 loss to Honduras, with Kyle Beckerman returning to preseason with the club and Nick Rimando recovering from a shoulder injury. Whether Beckerman would or would not have seen the pitch is debatable, given that three nominally defensive midfielders were involved from the get-go.
In other Hex news, Jamaica and Mexico finished in a 0-0 draw at the Azteca, prompting boos from the home crowd and shocked gasps from most Jamaicans. Andy Williams' Twitter timeline is worth a look, or read more from SBNation.
Luis Gil is likely to join up with the U.S. U-20s soon, whose first CONCACAF U-20 Championship match is Feb. 18. Check up on that schedule here. Update: He joined today.
