Saborio plays 90 minutes as U.S. defeats Costa Rica 1-0

USA TODAY Sports

Alvaro Saborio went 90 minutes for Costa Rica in a snow-capped 1-0 loss to the United States at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The United States scored early on through a Clint Dempsey poached goal, but the match slowed as time went on and the snow poured down.

The Costa Rican midfield struggled to find Saborio in dangerous areas, though the striker was able to find a positive shot from a tight angle in the second half.

Kyle Beckerman played the final two minutes for the United States, getting a touch or two and not much more as Costa Rica looked for a late winner. By that point, the match had slowed to a near-glacial point, with snow piling and the grounds crew struggling to maintain even vague lines in vital areas of the pitch.

RSL left back (or midfielder or forward — take your pick) Abdoulie Mansally could play for Gambia tomorrow against a strong Ivory Coast side. That match kicks off at 11 a.m. MDT.
