Saborio called up for Costa Rica's WCQs despite recent injury

USA TODAY Sports

Despite being sidelined with an injury reported to be inflammation after missing swathes of the season so far, Alvaro Saborio has been called up to the Costa Rican National Team for World Cup Qualifiers against Honduras, Mexico and Panama.

The Honduras match is on June 7 in Costa Rica; according to Real Salt Lake, Saborio would depart on June 3. Costa Rica then travels to Mexico for a June 11 match, and the final match for the national side is on June 18 at home against Panama.

Saborio will miss a match against Los Angeles Galaxy (June 8) and one against Charleston Battery in the US Open Cup (June 12).

The striker has missed some time for RSL this season, playing on only seven matches thus far. He made a return from injury in RSL's match against Chicago Fire, scoring a late goal, but he missed five consecutive matches before that.

RSL coach Jason Kreis will surely be hoping Saborio's injury worries are behind him as the striker heads off for international duty, particularly after a concern following last weekend's match against Chicago.
