Alvaro Saborio is returning to the United States after suffering an injury on international duty, reports from Costa Rica stated today. Real Salt Lake communications confirmed Saborio is returning and will be evaluated by a doctor upon his return.
Saborio played only briefly against the U.S. during a 3-1 win for his side on Friday.
A tweet from Juan Carlos Agüero indicated that Saborio may have suffered tearing, but this hasn't been corroborated by any source.
Álvaro Saborio sufre desgarro y no viaja con Costa Rica a Jamaica, en este momento parte rumbo a Estados Unidos al #RSL— Juan Carlos Agüero (@juankaguerom) September 9, 2013
Saborio has played in only 13 of RSL's 28 matches in 2013, having suffered injuries at various points in the season and having been absent through international duty for swathes of the summer. Missing more time at this point seems likely, which hardly helps RSL in the run-in.
