Rimando, Beckerman starting for USMNT against Korea

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando will both start for the US Men's National Team in today's friendly against Korea Republic, with youngster Luis Gil on the bench with the odds in his favor for making his first appearance for the national side.

Beckerman is playing with Mix Diskerud alongside him in midfield. One might expect Beckerman to play a more withdrawn role, with Diskerud further forward.

This match and the others taking place before the 2014 World Cup squad comes together before the event will be vital for Rimando and Beckerman in their bid to make the final squad. Gil is probably too young and inexperienced for that, but a brilliant performance today could see him squeeze into popular consideration.

At a minimum, Gil will be hoping to come off the bench in the second half, as there will almost certainly be a number of changes in the lineup throughout.
