Our ever-loyal goalkeeper, Nick Rimando, has been named to the United States Men's National Team ahead of a match against Czech Republic on September 3, making him the only MLS-based player called up for the match.
Rimando, Aston Villa's Brad Guzan, and Southampton's Cody Cropper are the three goalkeepers named to the roster. Rimando is the most senior of the three but is widely regarded as behind Guzan in the running for Tim Howard's spot following the U.S. mainstays announcement that he'll be sitting out a year of national team action.
It certainly speaks to Rimando's quality that he's involved despite this being an almost entirely non-MLS-based team. Why exactly he's been called up is difficult to say at this point, though, but he's reportedly not likely to miss any MLS action.
