Joao Plata called in to Ecuador again for matches against United States, El Salvador

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Ecuador and Real Salt Lake's Joao Plata, leading scorer for the season and the only striker that's been dangerous through the entire season, has been called up to his national team again.

It's the second time in the last little bit that Plata's been called up, a deserved plaudit for his play and a reassurance that he's playing at a genuinely high level.

It's worth considering that Plata is still only 22 years old, and the experience he gains playing with the Ecuadorian national team is significant.

Plata will undoubtedly miss the Oct. 11 match against San Jose Earthquakes. Ecuador plays Oct. 10 against the United States and Oct. 14 against El Salvador; both matches will be in the northeast United States.

Certainly other RSL players are likely to be called into their respective national teams and may miss the match against San Jose, which is only slightly distressing.
