Real Salt Lake v. NYRB, Desert Diamond Cup: Gamethread

Youngsters, newer players and trialists will be involved from the start against New York Red Bulls tonight as Real Salt Lake looks to succeed in the Desert Diamond Cup.

RSL will field a largely young group of players for the start of tonight's match against New York Red Bulls, general manager Garth Lagerwey said during an interview on ESPN700 this afternoon. A more veteran group should emerge at the half or sometime thereafter.

He also indicated that Robbie Findley and Alvaro Saborio were both likely to see their first minutes of preseason; Findley has been working to gain fitness as he shifts into a March to December schedule, while Saborio has been away on international duty.

Additionally, on-trial goalkeeper Josh Saunders will see minutes as Kreis and Lagerwey look to solidify the goalkeeping slot, as will midfielder Khari Stephenson, who may yet find himself offered a contract.

The match could also see the first action against former Real Salt Lake mainstays Jamison Olave and Fabian Espindola. Both may be involved against their old club.
